Information & Referral713-466-6304
!!!!NOTE IMPORTANT NOTE!!! AUGUST 2011 Please make note of the following changes
Family to Family Network has NO funding to provide Information and Referral, especially ARD/IEP Assistance.
We are NOT a big Agency - we are a parent organization and have kids with disabilities ourselves. We really need your financial support to continue to provide ARD/IEP Support.
For Referral to community resources, medical resources, etc.: We will continue to answer your short calls for basic information on resources in the community.
For Special Education and IEP/ARD assistance:
ALL of our current funding is for the maintenance and creation of the TEA Texas Project FIRST special education website which provides accurate and consistent information on the IEP process, written in a parent friendly way. There are numerous on-line training resources on that site as well. We cannot provide ARD/IEP phone support through that project.
Therefore, we PREFER that you use the Texas Project FIRST website to find special education information AND submit your questions by email.
If you must talk to a parent liaison - 1) Please organize your thoughts by writing your questions down on a piece of paper. 2) YOU MUST Obtain and Read 2012 IDEA Manual, The Guide to the ARD Process, or Procedural Safeguards. You can find links to ALL these documents on our website. 3) gather ALL IEP paperwork BEFORE you call.
Please DO NOT call us if you: a) have not made an effort to read any of the above documents, or b) do not have your IEP paperwork. (You can ask the school for a complete copy of your IEP if you do not have it).
Every day, Family to Family Network empowers families of children with disabilities by providing information, training, referrals and support. We help families to successfully navigate the complex educational, medical and social service systems so that children can reach their potential and be included in schools and communities.
Our information & referral services are provided to parents, educators, agency personnel and others to inform them of the full range of community services available for families who have children with disabilities.
Family To Family Network currently has two english speaking parent liaisons and one bilingual parent liaison who can provide answers to your questions. Please know that these liaisons, as well as many of the other staff who may answer your call, are parents of children with disabilities. They are truly caring individuals who understand your challenges and take the time to listen with open hearts and minds. The parent liaisons are also busy working on the Texas Project FIRST website.
Please note: Our parent liaisons do NOT provide legal advice, but will attempt to guide you on the special education process or to the appropriate resource. If you require legal advice, please contact an appropriate special education attorney.
In as such, please keep in mind that during peak times of the year (ARD season, start of school, etc.), that we take calls on a first come, first serve basis. We attempt to return all calls within a week.
When calling, please be prepared to provide your name, phone number, email address and a brief reason that you called. Sometimes it is easier for us to respond quickly by email especially if it is a straight forward question. Using courtesy and respect for your privacy, our parent liaisons will answer more complicated questions by phone.
For special education questions – while you wait for a return call, it is recommended that you review one of the following linked in on our Documents for Parents page:
“It’s A New IDEA” manual, Procedural Safeguards or A Guide to The ARD Process .
You can also access information on our Texas Project FIRST website.
We look forward to assisting you.
Were you provided with outstanding service when you called, emailed, or visited with a parent liaison? Don't forget to provide a review of our services!
