HEARING IMPAIRMENTS

Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - This is the web site for the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This site provides support and advocacy, information on available services, books, magazines and information on regional and national conferences.

American Society for Deaf Children - The web site of the American Society for Deaf Children whose purpose is “providing support, encouragement, and information to families raising children who are deaf or hard of hearing.”

Deaf Resources - This is the online catalog of Deaf Resources. It includes free American Sign Language e-cards with a variety of occasions and greetings to choose from.

Handspeak web site, a subscription based website consisting of American Sign Language (ASL) online dictionary and lessons, as well as other visual
and sign languages.

Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths & Adults - This is the web site for the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths & Adults. “The mission of HKNC is to enable each person who is deaf-blind to live and work in his or her community of choice.”

National Association of the Deaf - This is the web site of the National Association of the Deaf, a non-profit organization “safeguarding the accessibility and civil rights of 28 million deaf and hard of hearing Americans in education, employment, health care, and telecommunications.”

National Information Clearinghouse on Children - This is the DB-Link home page, the National Information Clearinghouse on Children who are Deaf-Blind. “DB-Link is a federally funded information and referral service that identifies, coordinates, and disseminates (at no cost) information related to children and youth who are deaf-blind (ages 0-21).” The site also includes state resources and job opportunities.

Strategies for Teaching Students with Hearing Impairments - This web site is entitled provides a list of Strategies for Teaching Students with Hearing Impairments that can be used in various classroom settings and learning situations. The site also provides links to other resources, organizations, books and videos.

Texas Association of the Deaf - This is the web site of the Texas Association of the Deaf. “It is a membership organization to provide information and education including surveys and studies to bring the viewpoint on various issues affecting the lives of people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing at all levels of the community. TAD also helps to ensure communication accessibility in our state, counties, and cities…”

Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services - The web site of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services whose mission is “to work in partnership with Texans with disabilities and families with children who have developmental delays to improve the quality of their lives and to enable their full participation in society.”

Texas School for the Deaf - The web site of the Texas School for the Deaf whose mission is to “promote quality educational opportunities and achievement for the deaf students of Texas by providing a comprehensive educational and residential program and a complete array of consultative services for parents and professionals throughout the State.

The Role of Assistive Listening Devices in the Classroom - This is an article entitled “The Role of Assistive Listening Devices in the Classroom” written by an audiologist with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
